Wu Jiaru

1992

Hong Kong

Wu Jiaru’s paintings emerge from a practice of automatic drawing—a method she uses to “unlearn” the rigid, skill-based artistic training she received at the art academy. Her works layer personal memory, mythology, and literature with reflections on identity and modernity, often probing the tension between individual subjectivity and technology. Her works feel improvisational yet deliberate—creating fragmented, psychological spaces that invite open interpretation.

Wu Jiaru’s recent solo exhibitions include Malgré ses blessures at Nature Art Center, Shenzhen (2025) and Emotional Device at P21 Gallery, Seoul (2023).In 2023, she took part in Tai Kwun’s standout exhibition Myth Makers – Spectrosynthesis III. Wu Jiaru has also participated in group exhibitions at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, UCCA Beijing, OCAT Shenzhen, and Guan Shan Yue Museum. Her works are held in private and public collections around the world, including M+ (Hong Kong) and the Burger Collection (Switzerland and Hong Kong).
